Agri Dept Kupwara organises Training programme on ‘Fodder Development’
KUPWARA, February 15: An orientation cum training programme under holistic development of agriculture with the theme ‘Development of Fodder resources for UT of J&K’ was today organised by Agriculture Production Department at Agriculture Complex Kupwara.
The main aim of this training programme was the capacity building of field functionaries and farmers in order to improve and develop fodder resources and scaling up of fodder production.
The programme was attended by officers and field functionaries of Agriculture department, Horticulture department, Animal and Sheep husbandry department, progressive farmers and scientists from KVK Kupwara.
Chief Agriculture Officer Kupwara, Ghulam Mohammad Dhobi while presiding over the training programme said that the department is encouraging establishment of fodder depots at village level as government is giving 50 percent subsidy for this with maximum ceiling of Rs 10 lakh. There is great feasibility of installation of fodder units at village levels in Kupwara district.
On this occasion, Dr. Rayees Ahmad scientist KVK Kupwara stressed on Rejuvenation and promotion of Silvi-pastoral system and preservation of fodder of pasture lands (alpine /sub alpine meadows).
It was said that 15 lakh tons of fodder is consumed by livestock in highland pastures for 8 months. There is a need to preserve and protect these pastures.
