AIIMS Jammu Hosts 6th Annual Congress-Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Surgeons-Young Surgeons Forum India Chapter Conference
JAMMU, April 27: The All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jammu proudly announces the organisation of the “6th Annual Congress Asia-Pacific Orthopaedic Association Young Surgeons Forum India Chapter,” marking a significant milestone in the Orthopaedic surgeons’ community of Jammu and Kashmir. This prestigious conference, the first of its kind hosted by AIIMS Jammu, brings together eminent orthopaedic surgeons across Jammu and Kashmir state, the rest of India and the international faculty. The event was held at the Hotel Radisson Blu, Jammu, on the 26th and 27th of April 2024.
The event was inaugurated with a lamp lighting ceremony by the Director of AIIMS, Jammu, Dr Shakti Kumar Gupta, along with Dr Jamal Ashraf (President of APOA), Chairperson Dr Sanjeev Gupta, Organising secretary Dr Rashid Anjum and other eminent orthopaedic faculties.
The Department of Orthopaedics at AIIMS Jammu is privileged to welcome all delegates, speakers, and other participants to this groundbreaking conference. The theme of the conference was “Current Controversies in Orthopaedics”. The event aimed to serve as a platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and innovation in orthopaedic surgery, fostering a spirit of academic excellence and professional growth among young orthopaedic surgeons.
The conference program was meticulously curated to address many topics relevant to orthopaedic surgery in the contemporary healthcare landscape. From discussions on the latest advancements in Orthopaedic surgical techniques to sessions exploring the role of technology in enhancing surgical outcomes, the conference provided attendees with comprehensive insights into the current trends and future directions of orthopaedic practice.
Topics such as trauma management, complex intra-articular fracture fixations and rehabilitation strategies were explored in depth, offering participants a unique opportunity to enhance their clinical proficiency and surgical expertise. The conference program also addressed critical challenges and opportunities in orthopaedic sports medicine and explored newer techniques.
One of the conference’s focal points was is the discussion of the latest advancements in joint replacement techniques. With an ageing population and an increasing prevalence of conditions such as osteoarthritis, joint replacement surgeries have become increasingly common. Newer alignment techniques and the role of robotics in joint replacement surgeries were discussed in detail.
The conference delved into the transformative role of technology in orthopaedic surgery. Rapid technological advancements, such as robotic-assisted surgery, 3D printing, etc., are revolutionising how orthopaedic procedures are performed and how patient care is delivered. Faculty from IIT, Jammu, attended the conference and delivered lectures.
Expert-led sessions have covered topics such as minimally invasive spine surgeries, tumour surgeries like limb salvage surgeries, deformity corrections, and paediatric orthopaedic surgeries. These sessions have provided attendees with evidence-based guidelines and best practices for managing a broad spectrum of orthopaedic conditions, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver high-quality care to their patients.
One of the conference’s highlight was the presentation of research findings and clinical case studies by young orthopaedic surgeons. Abstract submissions from across the region have been carefully reviewed, and selected presenters have the opportunity to showcase their work through oral presentations. This platform provided recognition for their contributions, engaged academic discourse, and shared best practices among peers.
There was a session called Learning from Masters in which topics like evidence-based medicine, Ayushman Bharat Scheme: journey so far, soft skill development and work-life balance were deliberated & experts from the field of orthopaedics shared their experiences with the young budding surgeons.
The conference has facilitated networking opportunities for participants to interact with faculty members, mentors, and industry representatives. Informal gatherings and social events had been incorporated into the program to encourage meaningful connections and collaborations beyond the confines of the conference venue.
