All taps, assets, pipelines laid under JJM in Ladakh to be mapped on GIS platform
Comm/Secy reviews implementation of JJM during winter months
Leh, December 27: Jal Jeevan Mission Ladakh is improving the quality of life by providing clean tap water in the harsh winter months to the people of Ladakh. The Commissioner/Secretary, PHE, Ajeet Kumar Sahu chaired a meeting to review the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission in the Union Territory.
In the meeting, the Commissioner/Secretary stated that the administration should pull out all the stops to ensure clean tap water is available in extreme winter conditions to the public at their doorstep. Detailed discussions took place on the operational plan of the schemes implemented in the 100 percent Har Ghar Jal-certified villages during the winter months. The Commissioner/Secretary gave directions to develop a manual handbook on creating a learning environment, conducive to self-reflection, and responsible and responsive governance amongst various stakeholders associated with provisioning water supply in rural Ladakh during the harsh winter.
Further, he gave directions to update the account details of all Village Water and Sanitation Committees in every village on IMIOS portal. It is mandatory for VWSCs to open bank accounts for complete details of financial activities undertaken, expenditures incurred, etc for public scrutiny and transparency. He also gave directions for mapping water sources and mechanical equipment deployed in the field to assist in future operation and maintenance when required.
He also enquired about the progress in GIS mapping of all pipelines and procurement and training of all engineers in suitable GIS software, which will provide a comprehensive decision-support tool for water distribution networks. The Commissioner/Secretary, also gave directions to start the training programme for daily wagers in operation and maintenance works from January 2023 onwards.
The meeting was attended by the Superintending Engineer, PHE/I&FC Circle, Leh/Kargil; Executive Engineer, PHE Division Leh/Kargil/Zanskar, and JJM, PMU officials.
