Amar Singh College celebrates World Drug De-Addiction Day

SRINAGAR, June 26: On the eve of World Drug De-Addiction Day, the Drug De-Addiction Committee, Cultural Committee and NSS Wings of the college, under Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan celebrated the day by conducting various programmes.

The programmes held include Special Address, Skit, declamation, poetry, slogan writing and rally to aware the youth and masses about the negative impacts of drugs and their use in the development of a healthy society.

Dr. Ulfat Jan, Convenor Psychological Counseling Cell in her special address deliberated in length upon the ill effects of drugs and illegal trafficking thereof. She highlighted the social stigma related to the drugs and finally invited all the stakeholders for a long lasting pledge to desist from this menace and eradicate it to make our society free from drugs.

A group of students under the supervision of Prof. Ovais Ahmad staged a skit depicting the illicit trafficking of drugs and its consequences.

Fatima, Hadiya Manzoor and Fahad Fayaz, students of the college through their declamation threw detailed light on the use of drugs and its consequences. Fahad Fayaz shared his personal experience he gained from the death of his friends who fell prey to the drugs.

In the poetry segment, Muhammad Saabir and Yamin Yousuf, enthralled the audience by their poetry on the theme.

Later, faculty and students in large number participated in a rally, organized to spread a general awareness among masses about the ill effects of drugs

Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr) Sheikh Ajaz Bashir in his message stressed upon the students to contribute in the holistic development of the society by spreading awareness and desisting from getting victimized to the drug addiction.

The programme was attended by the Secretary Staff Council, Prof. Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Prof. Mujeeb Ahmad Kawoosa, Convenor, Drug De-Addiction Committee, Dr. Shabnum Aara, NSS Programme Officer, Prof. Arshad Ahmad, Convenor, Cultural Committee, Prof. Heena Amin and other faculty members of the college.
