Amit Shah to extend his 3-day visit to J&K; chair security review meetings

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has decided to extend his visit to Jammu and Kashmir by an extra day. Instead of April 7, he’ll now be arriving in Jammu and Kashmir on April 6. His revised visit includes a meeting with BJP MLAs, two crucial security review meetings and the virtual inauguration of significant development projects.

Shah is set to land in Jammu on April 6. Later that evening, he’ll meet with 28 BJP MLAs and senior party leaders, coinciding with the Ramnavmi celebrations. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh will also be part of this gathering. During the meeting, Shah will gather feedback from the MLAs regarding the ongoing budget session, which is scheduled to resume on April 7. He’ll also assess their performance in the Assembly. The BJP had secured 29 seats in the 2024 Assembly elections, but their count has now dropped to 28 following the passing of MLA Devender Singh Rana.

On April 7, Shah will lead two important security meetings. The first will be the Unified Headquarters meeting which will be attended by LG Manoj Sinha, top Army officials, police, paramilitary forces and MHA officers. They’ll be reviewing the security situation, particularly in Jammu areas like Kathua and Udhampur, where there has been a rise in terrorist activity.

The second meeting will be focused on the Shri Amarnath Yatra which is scheduled to take place from July 3 to August 9. Officials will discuss security measures and other arrangements for this annual pilgrimage.

Additionally, the Home Minister plans to visit the International Border and meet with the families of police martyrs who lost their lives in a recent terrorist attack, where four police personnel were martyred and two terrorists were neutralized in Kathua.

After his meetings on April 7, Shah is likely to head to Srinagar. From there, he’ll virtually inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for several development projects, with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expected to join the event.
