Andhra Pradesh: YSRCP president Jagan Reddy meets Governor, alleges law and order situation deteriorating
Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) [India], July 21 (ANI): Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy met Governor S Abdul Nazeer at Raj Bhavan in Vijayawada here on Sunday, alleging that the law and order situation was deteriorating in Andhra Pradesh and requested an investigation by the central government agencies into the atrocities by the TDP government.
During the discussion with the governor, the YSRCP president said, “Constitutional institutions have failed in the state, and the administration has been paralysed. There is no protection to life, dignity of the people. Leaders and workers of the ruling party, with their barbaric and inhumane activities, are spreading widespread fear among the people of the state.”
He said that after coming to power, the TDP-led coalition government immediately targeted those who didn’t support them in the recently concluded elections.
He said that the TDP has targeted the known sympathisers of the YSRCP party and started terrorising them by humiliating, beating, and even killing them.
“In this process, they have destroyed properties, establishments, including residential houses, in the open glare, causing widespread fear among people in the state. In addition to personal attacks and vandalism, they have caused severe damage to government properties. They did not spare even the village secretariats, RBKs, and village clinics that provide essential services to the people, just because these institutions were established by the YSRCP government, they destroyed these buildings solely for this reason,” the former CM said.
He said that they have also vandalised the statues of the late Dr Y S Rajashekhar Reddy, former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, that were installed following the due process of law.
The YSRCP President mentioned that a YSRCP activist Rashid was brutally hacked to death in Vinukonda on July 17, 2024. This incident happened in the middle of a busy street, and surprisingly, the police were at close proximity when it happened.
He said even YSRCP-elected representatives to parliament and the state assembly, as well as candidates who contested the elections, have no protection.
“On Thursday, in Punganur, Chittoor district, TDP mobs attempted to murder our party’s Lok Sabha floor leader, MP PV Midhun Reddy, who had gone to meet former MP N Reddeppa. This attack happened in the presence of the police, indicating a severe deterioration in the state’s ability to protect its citizens,” he further said.
He said that this is the classic example of the apathy of the police towards law-and-order issues, and with this attitude of the police, TDP goons are emboldened to perpetuate these barbaric and inhuman acts as if they were permitted to do so.
He informed that for the past 40-45 days, the state has been governed under a de facto “Red Book” constitution, effectively handing over control to political goons, rapists, and those who commit atrocities against children and added that anarchy has become order of the day in the state instead of governance.
He said that in just one month of the new government, 36 people have been murdered, 300 murder attempts have been made, 35 people have committed suicide due to TDP harassment, 560 private properties have been destroyed, 490 government properties have been vandalised, and nearly 2,700 families have left their villages due to these atrocities.
“Additionally, there have been over 1,050 incidents of violence and attacks. This reflects the state of affairs in our state under the present dispensation, are not at all inclined to maintain law and order,” he said.
He said that instead of using government machinery to protect the interests of the people without discrimination, it has been politicised; murders, attacks, and atrocities are allowed with this intent. He concluded that overall, the law and order situation has reached abysmal levels in the state.
