Animal Husbandry Department Jammu organises mega Awareness programme in Marh block

JAMMU, February 25: Animal Husbandry Department Jammu today organized a mega awareness programme and  cattle show here at Village Jaswan, Block Marh.

The programme was chaired by Director Animal Husbandry Jammu, Dr. Shubhra Sharma and was attended by   DDC Member, Marh,  Balbir Lal, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Jammu, Dr. Altaf Ali Syed, Livestock Development Officer Jammu, Extension Officer(AHD) Jammu, Sarpanches, Panches and farmers including women in large numbers.

The Extension Officer described in detail the various departmental schemes and the process of their implementation on the ground level for the betterment of the farming community.

Speaking on the occasion, DDC member, Marh encouraged people towards profitable dairy farming by keeping good quality milch animals and taking proper care of those, to supplement their income levels.

Addressing the gathering, the Director Animal Husbandry Jammu exhorted the farmers present to go for processing and value addition of milk in order to fetch better prices of their produce and urged them to avail benefits of various schemes being run by the department for providing support to the milk processing units.

On the sidelines of the awareness programme, a Cattle show was also organized to create a spirit of healthy competition amongst farmers towards keeping good quality milch animals. The show witnessed participation of  various milch breeds of cattle and buffalos like Sahiwal, Jersey, Holstein Friesian and Murrah.

The event concluded with judging of champion animals from amongst different categories and prize distribution among winners.

The PRI members and farmers present expressed satisfaction towards the working of the Animal Husbandry department in their area.

Useful literature in the form of pamphlets/leaflets/booklets was also distributed among the participants during the event.
