Anti Leprosy Day: Sparsh Leprosy Awareness programme under NLEP held at Shopian
SHOPIAN, JANUARY 30: On the occasion of Anti Leprosy day, a daylong programme was today organized by the Department of Health Shopian at the Meeting Hall of Mini-Secretariat, here.
The Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Shopian, Dr. Nasir Ahmed Lone presided over the Awareness camp.
Speakers on the occasion spoke at length about the disease, prevention strategies to be adopted against it and the need to keep vigil on its recurrence in the district.
Refuting the myths and social stigma associated with the disease, ADDC said there is no need to feel panic about the disease.
A pledge on leprosy elimination was also taken by the officers/officials in the programme.
On the occasion, it was informed that different awareness activities including poster pasting, distribution of pamphlets, and awareness through the mobile public address system shall be conducted for a fortnight as part of the Leprosy awareness campaign.
It was also informed that no patient is presently active in the district.
Among others, BMOs, Medical Officers and officials and Aasha Workers attended the awareness programme.
Meanwhile, healthcare kits were also distributed on the occasion.
