Assam Cabinet approves 57 recommendations of Clause 6 panel: CM Himanta on Assam Accord
Guwahati (Assam) [India], September 5 (ANI): In a major announcement, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the Assam Cabinet has approved the implementation of 57 out of 67 recommendations from the Justice (retd) Biplab Sarma Commission on Clause 6 of the Assam Accord.
CM Himanta in a post on X, stated that this stands as one of the most significant efforts since Independence to protect the rights of the people of Assam.
Clause 6 of the Assam Accord states that the Assamese people’s cultural, social, linguistic identity, and heritage should be protected, preserved, and promoted through appropriate constitutional, legislative, and administrative safeguards.
In a post on X, the Assam Chief Minister highlighted key decisions taken by the cabinet over the implementation of recommendations of Justice (Retd) Biplab Sarma Commission on implementing Clause 6 of Assam accord.
The recommendations will be applicable across the state, except 6th schedule areas and Barak Valley. In these regions, the recommendations will be implemented only after the concurrence of the authorities and the people in those regions.
The cabinet will hold in depth discussions with the Government of India for the remaining 10 recommendations.
The Cabinet further decided to constitute a Group of Ministers, who will engage with the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and other organizations to develop a clear roadmap and implementation framework.
The recommendations will be implemented by April 15, 2025.
