Assam Police arrest 2 for extorting a tiles businessman in Guwahati
Guwhati (Assam) [India] August 21 (ANI): Police arrested two persons for extorting Rs 20,000 from a Tiles businessman in Jalukbari Guwahati, police said on Wednesday.
According to the police, the accused are identified as Raju Das and Paban Darjee had extorted money from a number of commercial establishment Guwahati city.
Commissioner of Police Diganta Barah said that a hand written was sent to proprietor of The Tiles Gallery from a person identifying himself as Anup Chetia and asking him to call on a particular number.
“Upon calling, the accused started demanding money from the victim and threatened him of dire consequences if the money is not paid.” Commissioner Barah Said.
Commissioner Barah further said that Rs 20,000 was paid to the caller’s associate in front of Radisson Blu hotel on 17.08.2024. Upon technical analysis, it was found that the following 2 accused persons were running this extortion racket by identifying themselves as members of ULFA.
It has been learnt that they have extorted money from a number of commercial establishments in Guwahati City. Both the accused have been arrested in a swift operation by a team of West Guwahati Police and are currently in the custody of Jalukbari police outpost, the police informed.
