Assam: Three KPLA members surrender in Karbi Anglong; hand over weapons to police
Guwahati (Assam) [India], August 19 (ANI): Three cadres of a newly formed organisation KPLA surrendered to the local police with their weapons in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam, said a top official of Assam Police on Monday.
Along with it, the police officials have also recovered three 0.32 pistols and 2 rds of live ammunition.
According to Assam Director General of Police GP Singh, the KPLA was targeting the areas of Langlokso, Nihanglangso, and Borpung for their extortion activities.
Taking it to a social media post on X, Assam Director General of Police GP Singh wrote, “An organisation by the name KPLA was formed in the month of July 2024. It was learnt that they had been trying to commit extortion in Langlokso, Nihanglangso and Borpung of Karbi Anglong.. Due to sustained police effort, 3 cadres of the said organization surrendered to the Karbi Anglong police team with 3 nos of 0.32 pistols and 2 rds of live ammunitions. @karbianglongpol @assampolice @CMOfficeAssam.”
Earlier today, a person was arrested from the Jalukbari area here for allegedly extorting money from people impersonating a CBI officer and fake police uniforms, I-cards, badges and toy pistols were seized from his possession, police said.
The accused identified as Fayajul Hazarika alias Denish (26), who had also collected money from gullible people by assuring them of jobs, was arrested on Sunday night, said Guwahati Commissioner of Police (CP) Diganta Barah.
A team from the Jalukbari police outpost apprehended the accused who impersonated a CBI Officer using police uniforms, I-cards, badges, toy pistols etc., the CP said, adding his accomplice namely Gautam Saikia alias Ayan was also apprehended as the second accused person who had allowed the use of his vehicle which was also seized.
