Awareness program on prevention, treatment of Leprosy held at Gandoh

DODA, June 25: An awareness program on prevention and treatment of Leprosy was held by the District Leprosy Society at Village Bhatyas in Medica Block Gandoh.  

The awareness programme was held under the supervision of Chief Medical Officer,  Dr Ab Hamid Zargar. A medical team from the CMO Office, headed by Medical Officer Leprosy Dr Javed Ahmed Parray, along with the staff from District Leprosy Unit conducted the awareness camp.

The team visited the house of suspected cases for follow up and further management, while screening of suspected cases were also done  in the camp.

Dr Javed Ahmed Parray and Surinder Singh Bijyal (PMA Supervisor) informed the public that the main objective of organizing the awareness programme was to create awareness among masses on Leprosy, to reduce stigma and discrimination in the community and for early detection of Leprosy cases.

 They sensitized the people that Leprosy disease is totally curable at all stages and is not a communicable disease and signs and symptoms help to detect the Leprosy cases.

The department also distributed Information Education and Communication material on the disease among the general public.

The staff of NTPHC Jakyas including Medical Officer Dr Farhat Abass also extended their support in making the awareness camp successful.

Those who were part of the team included Surinder Singh Bijyal (PMA Supervisor), Ram Raj (PMA), besides Joginder Singh (PMA), Shafqat Hussain (MTS) and concerned Staff of NTPHC Jakyas and ASHAs of the area.
