Awareness programme on New Criminal Laws held at GHSS Qaimoh
KULGAM, MARCH 18: In order to make stakeholders aware of the major legal reforms and their implications, an awareness programme on the new criminal laws was organized at the Auditorium of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Qaimoh.
The event saw the presence of Tehsil Level Officers, members of civil society, officials from various departments and students.
The conference started with an inaugural address by Dr. Sajad Ahmad Mir, Principal, GHSS Qaimoh. Dr. Sajad emphasized the importance of legal literacy, especially among students and the general population. He provided a thorough overview of the recently enacted criminal laws, as well as crucial insights into the NDPS Act.
Appreciating the proactive endeavors of the district administration in organizing the session, the Principal GHSS Qaimoh reiterated the critical importance of such attempts in building an educated citizenry.
Gowhar Rehman, Advocate and Standing Counsel to the District Administration Kulgam was the guest speaker at the event. He gave a detailed overview of the new criminal laws. Connecting the dots on why these reforms were made, he clarified their proposed effect on the police and people’s rights.
The guest speaker dealt with the lawfulness of the system with a major focus on legal literacy among the people.
Tehsildar Qaimoh, Nisar Ahmad Wani, discussed extensively how the new law will practically benefit at the field level. He explained how the reforms intend to make judicial processes more streamlined, transparent and accessible.
He urged students to remain well aware of their legal rights and duties, reiterating that such awareness is the key to a just and fair society.
The programme was well appreciated as a fruitful measure towards awareness of laws and empowering citizens with necessary information on legislative amendments.
