Awareness Programme on World No Tobacco Day held at Kathua

KATHUA, MAY 31: An awareness programme marking World No Tobacco Day 2024, under the theme “Protecting Children from Tobacco Industry Interference,” was organized here today at the office of Chief Medical Officer Kathua.

The event saw active participation from Jarad Pratik Anil (IAS Probationer), Head of Psychiatry Dr. Rajesh Chandel and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Vijay Raina, along with the entire staff of the CMO office.

The theme for this year’s ‘World No Tobacco Day’ highlights the disturbing trend of the tobacco industry targeting youth through pervasive social media and streaming platform campaigns. Such tactics are increasingly exposing young people to the appeal of tobacco products, posing significant threats to their health and well-being.

The programme commenced with an insightful awareness lecture delivered by the District Health Officer Kathua. Following the lecture, attendees collectively took a pledge to combat the influence of the tobacco industry on children. The event also featured the flagging off of an IEC Van, set to traverse key areas of the city, including all designated hotspots, to spread the anti-tobacco message.

In conjunction with the awareness programme, a series of debates and a poster-making competition on the theme were organized at ANMT School Kathua. Students participated with great zeal, demonstrating their creativity and commitment to the cause.

The top performers were honored by CMO Kathua, and refreshments were provided to all participants. Engaging students in these activities was a strategic effort to ensure the anti-tobacco message is taken home and shared widely, encouraging them to abstain from all forms of tobacco. ‎
