Azadi Ka Khel Utsav celebrations galore across the Union Territory
SRINAGAR, AUGUST 12: Even as preparation for Independence Day celebrations is in full swing across the union territory, the sports activities continued in various sports facilities of the J&K.
The events in the disciplines of Taekwondo and Kabaddi were held at Government middle school, Gool where the competitions in both boys’ and girls’ categories were held. More than a hundred participants and spectators witnessed the event.
Meanwhile, the events to commemorate the Independence Day celebrations in the disciplines of Tug-of-War, Boxing, and Gymnastics were held at Sports Stadium, Kathua. Around eight teams each in boys and girls participated in the Tug-of-War. A good number of players also participated in the Boxing and Gymnastics events. District Officer, Youth Services and Sports Sunil Kumar was the chief guest. While speaking on the occasion he encouraged the participants to spread the message of unity through the medium of sports besides encouraging them to indulge regularly in sports activities. The event was held under the supervision of Baljinder Pal Singh, Manager of district Kathua who was assisted by Mitali, Gymnastics Coach, and Rohit Sharma, Hockey Coach.
In the meantime, the sports activities in the discipline of Carrom, and Tug of War, competitions were organized at Government Higher Secondary School, Lasana Surankote. Around six boys’ teams and four girls’ team’s girls participated in the event.
The Ex-MLA Chowdhary Mohammad Akram of the Surankote constituency was the chief guest on the occasion and Choudhary Mohammad Aziz, Principal of Government Higher Secondary School Lasana was the guest of honour. More than 800 spectators witnessed were present at the venue. The event was conducted under the overall supervision of Nirdosh Kumar Sharma, Incharge Manager of Sports Stadium Poonch. He was assisted by Mushtaq Ahmad Boxing coach and Ram Prakash ground in charge and other officials of the Sports Council from the district.
