“Back to School” Campaign under Project Talaash conducted in far flung areas of Kishtwar
Resolutions passed in Special Gram Sabhas; parents encouraged to send OOSCs back to Schools
KISHTWAR, January 17: District Administration Kishtwar, in collaboration with Education Department, today carried out Special Gram Sabhas in far flung Schools of HS Chingam, HSS Mughalmaidan, UPS Bhagrna Nalla, HSS Chatroo as part of “Back to School” Campaign launched under Project Talaash.
At these designated places, Special gram Sabhas were conducted by involving the parents of the Out of School Children (OOSC) and concerned School Staff and PRIs.
Special Gram Sabhas were conducted under Supervision of CEO at HS Chingam, Tehsildar Mughalmaidan at HSS Mughalmaidan, Tehsildar at UPS Bhagrna Nalla, BDO Inderwal at HSS Chatroo covering several Panchayats.
Besides, resolutions were passed in gram Sabhas wherein parents were encouraged to send their wards back to school.
Pertinent to mention that under operation TALAASH, some areas were found to have a high number of Out Of School Children (OOSC).These Out of School Children (OOSC) include School dropouts and never enrolled children of the age of 6-14 years.
Particularly, the OOSC data is alarming in Schedule Tribe Communities wherein the socio-economic conditions of the people is the main reason for high dropout rate.
The District Administration Kishtwar, in collaboration with the Education Department, DIET and Pratham Foundation has rolled out the mass level awareness campaign to motivate and encourage the parents to send Out of School Children to Schools. For the purpose various soft interventions have been adopted, including holding of enrollment camps and involving the civil society.
Earlier, the day before senior officers of District Administration also participated in these gram Sabhas wherein they sensitised and educated the masses/parents about the importance of education for their wards and encouraged them to ensure re-enrolment of their wards in special winter camps under Back to the school initiative of project Talaash and thereby bringing their wards in the mainstream.
Parents were also acquainted with the various soft interventions adopted by the School education department in collaboration with other stakeholders including DIET, SAMAGRA Shiksha & Pratham Foundation.
