Basohli Paintings Karkhandar unit inaugurated at Basohli

KATHUA, December 11: A Karkhandar Unit of Basohli Paintings in Saman village of Basohli, Kathua was today inaugurated by Col. (Retd) Mahan Singh, Chairman District Development Council Kathua.

The event was attended by Sarpanch, Saman village, Devinder Singh, several community members, local artists and officials from the Office of Assistant Director Handicrafts/Handloom Kathua.

As part of Karkhandar Scheme, this is the 9th unit of its kind in the district since the launch of the scheme in 2021. The unit will have a master trainer, Sunita Devi, who shall impart quality training to 10 trainees as well as help them with market linkage opportunities.

On the occasion, the DDC Chairman lauded the Department’s efforts and called it a moment of pride for the community as they witnessed the establishment of a unit dedicated to nurturing and promoting the art of Basohli Painting. He appealed to locals, especially youngsters  to come forward and play their game changer role by pursuing vocational training in Basohli paintings. He said the trainees of these centres will become ambassadors of the rich art of Basohli paintings which got GI tag which makes it unique and exclusive.
