“Being Young is Wonderful, but So is Being Old”; Zeenat Aman Proudly Shows off Her Grey Hair
Zeenat Aman, the veteran Indian actress and model, has inspired many by choosing to keep her hair grey and embracing the natural ageing process. She has been vocal about the importance of accepting oneself at any age and rejecting societal pressures to conform to unrealistic beauty standards.
Zeenat Aman, a popular actress from the 1970s and 1980s, recently made her debut on Instagram and has engaged her audience with her captivating stories. In a recent post, she proudly displayed her grey hair while sitting in a friend’s garden near Alibagh. Her son, Zanuski, clicked the picture, showing her from behind, highlighting her natural grey hair.
Sharing the post, Zeenat wrote, “As women we are told that our social worth lies in youth and physical beauty. If not explicitly, then in a thousand subliminal ways. This is especially true for the entertainment industry. In general, as we age, men are bequeathed gravitas but women are at best offered sympathy.” She added, “I was initially reluctant to stop dyeing my hair, and was strongly advised against it. Some well wishers even said it would negatively impact my work opportunities. It was only once I contemplated upon my own hesitations that I realised I really don’t care to buttress our society’s idolisation of youth.”
Zeenat feels delighted to see women flaunting their grey hair and adds, “Being young is wonderful, but so is being old. It thrills me to see more and more silver-haired women (of all ages) challenge the status quo.” She added “My son @zanuski took this image of me (and my silver bob) a few weeks ago at a friend’s home near Alibag.”
Zeenat Aman made her film debut with the film Hulchul in 1971. However, she gained recognition and critical acclaim with her role in the film Hare Rama Hare Krishna (1971). She appeared in several successful films like Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973), Don (1978), Satyam Shivam Sundaram (1978), Qurbani (1980), and many others.
