Jammu, Aug 16: In a landmark decision, the Jammu and Kashmir government has granted proprietary rights over evacuees’ land to displaced persons from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) of 1947, 1965, 1971, and West Pakistan. This significant step has been lauded by Pt Ashok Kumar Khajuria, Convenor of the BJP Sharnarthi Cell, who described it as a “historic” measure providing much-needed relief to the displaced community.
Khajuria praised the decision as a major milestone in the quest for justice for families who have long sought rightful ownership of their lands. He emphasized, “This decision marks a milestone in the journey of justice for the displaced families who have been seeking rightful ownership for decades. It is a testament to the government’s commitment to addressing the long-standing grievances of these individuals.”
Expressing heartfelt gratitude to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the Narendra Modi-led government, Khajuria noted, “The conferment of proprietary rights over evacuees’ land to displaced persons is a historic and much-needed step that will bring long-awaited relief and recognition to those who have endured years of displacement and hardship.” He further highlighted that this decision underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring the rightful ownership of land for displaced persons.
The Administrative Council’s decision includes a structured process for transferring land ownership. According to the plan, the custodian concerned will facilitate the transfer in a time-bound manner, with safeguards to prevent misuse and unauthorized encroachments. The Custodian General will oversee the process to ensure transparency and efficiency, with applications for proprietary rights to be processed within 30 days and the entire process expected to be completed within six months.
In addition, the Administrative Council has approved the transfer of 2292 kanals and 2 marlas of land for various developmental purposes. This includes 1212 kanal 12 marla in Tehsil Dinga Amb, District Kathua, and 1070 kanal in Tehsil Samba and Vijaypur, District Samba, intended for the establishment of industrial estates. These initiatives are anticipated to significantly boost regional development and create employment opportunities.
The allocated land also includes spaces for essential public infrastructure, such as a police post in Shuhama, District Ganderbal, and a police station in Lar, District Ganderbal, which are expected to enhance security and improve law and order management in these areas.
Khajuria commended the Jammu and Kashmir government for these decisive actions and affirmed that the Modi-led NDA Government at the centre remains the only hope for the displaced community. He concluded, “It is the BJP government that supports and implements policies benefiting displaced persons and contributing to their rehabilitation.”
