BJP pays floral tributes to Savitribai Phule

JAMMU, January 03; Mahila Morcha, J&K BJP led by its President Sanjita Dogra, paid floral tributes to legendary social reformer Savitribai Phule on her birth anniversary at party headquarters, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu.

Sat Sharma CA, President, J&K BJP, Priya Sethi, BJP NEM & Headquarter Incharge, Veenu Khanna, Secretary, J&K BJP and many senior leaders of Mahila Morcha paid tributes on the occasion.

Sat Sharma, while paying tributes, said that born in 1831 in Maharashtra, Savitribai Phule led a strong movement against the unbending society, during a time when women and certain castes were not given education and oppressed. She began this process with reforms in education, caste equality, and women empowerment along with her husband, Jyotirao Phule. He said that the combined efforts from both of them were the beginning of progressive changes that are still occurring up to the present time. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also working on the mission mode to achieve a society that is free from the social evils.

Priya Sethi, in her address said that Savitri Bai Phule also committed herself to social causes beyond women’s education. She worked tirelessly for the cause of self-respect of the Dalits who were suffering at that time. She made the society aware of the plight of Dalits. She opposed untouchability and worked towards molding society to become more inclusive and equitable.

Sanjita Dogra, in her address said that families and societies could tread the path of progressive ideals only through women’s education, something for which both Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule underwent a lot of struggle, pain and hardships.

Neha Mahajan, General Secretary Mahila Morcha conducted the proceedings of the tributes programme.
