BJP West Bengal President calls for resignation of Mamata Banerjee
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], August 22 (ANI): West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar on Thursday criticised the TMC-led West Bengal Government on the handling of the RG Kar Medical College alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata.
During a protest against the incident, the BJP state president called it a unique incident and alleged that it highlights the total failure of law and order in the state. He also challenged Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee to show another incident which has happened in the heart of Kolkata. “I challenge Abhishek Banerjee, that from the 900 cases you mentioned, apart from the RG Kar case, show the people another incident which has happened in the capital, or an incident which has happened in government premises, or an incident where an on duty medical doctor has been a victim”.
Majumdar was replying to a post by the Trinamool Congress MP on X, where he wrote “Over the past 10 days, while the nation has been protesting against the #RGKarMedicalcollege incident and demanding justice, 900 RAPES have occurred across different parts of India – DURING THE VERY TIME WHEN PEOPLE WERE ON THE STREETS PROTESTING AGAINST THIS HORRIBLE CRIME. Sadly, a lasting solution still remains largely undiscussed.”
Majumdar also hit out against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her handling of the case. The BJP state president alleged that the Bengal CM is stealing from the people of the state by hiring Kapil Sibal to represent the state in the Supreme Court. “Kapil Sibal is fighting for Mamata Banerjee along with 21 lawyers who have been engaged by the state government in the Supreme Court. The government has pickpocketed the people and is now trying save the culprits”, said the BJP state president.
During the protest, he also called for the resignation of the Chief Minister, who is also the Home Minister and Health Minister for the state of Bengal, claiming that the whole state is angry with the CM because of the mishandling of the RG Kar incident.
The trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9.
