Brahmastra Screenwriter and actor Hussain Dalal starrer film Greater Elephant releases its trailer. Directed by Srinivas Sunderrajan, “Greater Elephant” is set to premiere on Open Theatre on August 23, 2024. It also stars Naveen Kaushik, Rajiv Mishra, Shreyas Pandit, and Saunskruti, along with Hussain.
The trailer unfolds with a compelling narrative about a mahout’s quest to reclaim his lost elephant, exploring themes of purpose and existential search.
Director Srinivas Sunderrajan shared the inspiration behind the film, revealing that the idea struck him while observing a mahout and his elephant at a bus stop. “I wondered what might happen if the elephant were to go missing in the city. This scenario triggered a contemplation on the mahout’s sense of purpose and identity, given that his role is intrinsically linked to the elephant. It became a metaphor for the broader existential quest within a society that seems to be increasingly disconnected from itself.”
He further added, “”Greater Elephant” began as a serious drama but evolved into a satire with a black comedy edge through collaboration with writer Omkar Sane. The narrative is intentionally straightforward, reflecting the film’s metaphorical depth without the need for elaborate visual effects or gimmicks.”
Highlighting the importance of platforms like Open Theatre for independent films, Sunderrajan noted, “Such platforms provide direct and unfiltered access to independent films, which often get overshadowed by mainstream OTT services. They also offer affordable viewing options, making it easier for audiences to engage with unique cinematic voices.”
