Central University of Jammu Flags Off Tamil-Origin Students for Kashi Tamil Sangamam (KTS-3.0)
Jammu, 16 Feb 2025: The Central University of Jammu proudly flagged off a group of Tamil-origin students from various departments to participate in the prestigious “Kashi Tamil Sangamam” (KTS-3.0), a flagship cultural initiative of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, under the “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” program.

The flag-off ceremony was led by Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, in the presence of Prof. Ritu Bakshi, Dean Students’ Welfare and University Coordinator for the event, Dr. R. Sudhakar, Associate Professor, Department of National Security Studies. This initiative is part of a broader effort to foster national integration and cross-regional awareness.
The Kashi Tamil Sangamam celebrates the age-old cultural and spiritual bond between Kashi (Varanasi) and Tamil Nadu, promoting their shared heritage in literature, music, and pilgrimage. Participants will embark on a transformative journey that includes a sacred bath at Prayagraj—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers—and visits to key cultural and religious sites such as Ayodhya.
Through rituals, lectures, and discussions, students will gain valuable insights into the historical, religious, and linguistic linkages between Tamil and Kashi cultures. The event provides a unique opportunity for intercultural engagement, allowing participants to interact with scholars, artists, and peers, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of India’s rich and diverse heritage.
As part of the preparatory academic engagements, the Office of the Dean, Students’ Welfare (DSW) had organized a seminar on “Sage Agastya: The Mantra Drashta (Revisiting the Contribution of Sage Agastya)”, aligning with the central theme of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam. The seminar explored the spiritual and cultural legacy of Sage Agastya, highlighting his contributions to Vedic literature and his significance in both northern and southern Indian traditions.
