Central University of Jammu Organizes a Two-day Workshop on English Language Skills

 Jammu, Sept 12, 2024: To instill English language skills and boost students’ confidence, the Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu, organized a two-day workshop on “English Grammar: Utterance, Figures, and Versification” from 10th to 11th September, 2024, under Shiksha

Shashtraath, with a dynamic and inclusive thought.The event held at the Malviya Shiksha Bhawan observed several engaging activities and individual participation by the students of Integrated B.A-B.Ed. program.

On the first day, Dr. Disha Sharma, Coordinator, Department of Educational Studies (CUJ), commenced the workshop with her expert talk on the “Pocket English Grammar with Fun Learning” session. Dr. Disha aided students to hone skills that they might find boring to access from books by literal implication of grammar tricks in a fun learning way. She conducted the session on tense and its application with activities for fostering listening skills and memory enhancement. She also involved students with various creative activities, including games on figures of speech, articulation of sentence structures, and writing skills.

Following the fruitful session, on the second day, the students were engaged by an insightful session on “Significance of Communication Skills” conducted by the resource person, Dr. Kambhampati Rajesh, Associate Professor of Department of English, Central University of Jammu.Dr. Rajesh delivered an interactive session whereby he comprehensively presented the different forms of communication and the barriers that may hinder the process of learning. He encouraged the students to indulge in reading informative books and articles for improving their knowledge about the language. He emphasized the correct usage of parts of speech and deliberated an exhaustive presentation of sentence structures.

In his message, Prof. Asit Mantry, Head, Department of Educational studies, CUJ, welcomed the resource person and also acknowledged him for highlighting the transformative power of words in promoting effective communication. He also emphasized that the workshop aimed at the student’s mental caliber to adopt and learn the skills for survival in a highly competitive environment. He asserts that the workshop imbued the students with fundamentals of the English language and inculcated thinking capabilities that will contribute to the learners’ personal and professional development. Prof. Mantry added that the department, with the able leadership of Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice-chancellor, CUJ, is committed to fostering positive change and providing a conducive environment for students to excel academically and personally, preparing them to become global leaders and change-makers.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Aarushi. She thanked Prof. Mantry for his persistent support and unwavering dedication in nurturing a progressive environment for students. She also acknowledged Dr. Rajesh for his precious time and invaluable insights that will forge a new path for the students. She also appreciated Dr. Disha for conducting such productive sessions for the students.
