Centre for Molecular Biology, CUJ hosts the Journal Club Seminar

Jammu, 20 Sept 2024: The Centre for Molecular Biology at Central University of Jammu under the patronage of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev jain, hosted a weekly journal club meeting. In the meeting, 2nd-year M.Sc  Biotechnology students Ms Anushka and Ms Ankita brought to light their innovative research on Helicobacter pylori resistance conducted during their summer internship at the Tata Institute for Genetics and Society (TIGS), Bengaluru under the guidance of Dr. Shivranjani C. Moharir.  Anushka and Ankita explained the concept of metagenomics, a method that allows researchers to analyze genetic material from environmental samples without culturing organisms. They then discussed antimicrobial resistance, detailing how H. pyloridevelopsresistance to antibiotics.

The presentation included a vibrant Question & Answer session, where students and faculty engaged in discussions about the research methods and implications. This interactive component added depth to the session, allowing for a broader exchange of ideas.

Anushka and Ankita’s presentation was met with enthusiasm and praise. Their research not only provided valuable insights into H. pylori resistance but also highlighted the importance of ongoing research in combating antibiotic resistance

The meeting was coordinated by Dr Swarkar Sharma, Associate Professor, and Dr Sudhir Singh, Assistant Professor, CMB CUJ. The meeting was attended by students, scholars, and faculty of the Centre.  In the meeting, the director of the Centre for Molecular Biology, Dr. Narendra K Bairwa encouraged students to advance their knowledge and raise awareness.
