Kushinagar (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 26 (ANI): Expressing solidarity with the victims of the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said that the central government should take “concrete” steps to respond to Pakistan and hoped there would be no security lapses in the future.
The SP leader said the entire country is grieving the loss of lives and stressed that no political gains should be made from such incidents.
Speaking to reporters, Akhilesh Yadav said, “The whole country stands with the families of the tourists who have been killed. No one can reduce their grief and pain. We all condemn such incidents, and when the all-party meeting was held, all the parties came together and stood with the government against this terrorist incident carried out by terrorists.”
He added, “The Samajwadi Party also believes that whatever concrete steps the government wants to take, it should take them in response to Pakistan. We hope that the government will take concrete steps. We hope that there will be no security failures in the future. The country does not want such an incident to repeat itself.”
Further, he said, “We also want to say that no political gains should be made from such incidents. We hope that the government will take concrete steps regarding the security of the country, the security of the borders, and the economy of the country.”
Akhilesh Yadav also said that the Samajwadi Party “fully supports” the central government’s decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty in response to the Pahalgam attack, which killed 25 Indian citizens on April 22.
“Whatever step of ‘water ban’ the government takes in response, we will fully support it,” he posted on X.
On Friday, Akhilesh Yadav had condemned the Pahalgam attack and stressed the need to eliminate forces that threaten the nation’s communal harmony.
“A very sad incident has taken place and it cannot be condemned enough… The government has assured that such an incident will not happen again, and we hope that concrete steps will be taken along with strong action… Those who want to destroy the brotherhood of our country, such forces should be wiped out forever,” Yadav told ANI.
Meanwhile, following the Pahalgam terror attack, intelligence agencies have compiled a list of 14 local terrorists actively operating in Jammu and Kashmir. (ANI)
