Says that Various Initiatives Have Been Launched for the Empowerment of Women
BARAMULLA, April 28: The Chairperson, National Commission for Women (NCW) Rekha Sharma today conducted an extensive tour of Baramulla where she carried out several activities meant for the upliftment of women in all walks of life.
At the outset, the Chairperson visited One Stop Centre (OSC) Khawaja Bagh Baramulla where she interacted with the victims and got appraisal of their issues. She also held a comprehensive review of the functioning and progress of the centre.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairperson said that various initiatives have been launched with an aim to uplift women and bring in gender sensitivity especially by reaching out to women who have been victims of domestic violence.
She said that the establishment of these One Stop Centres bring in gender sensitivity especially by reaching out to women who have been victims of domestic violence.
Moreover, the Chairperson NCW also asserted that the center facilitates effective disposal of complaints received by OSC and also help in collecting information about the problems faced by women in the district.
The initiative aims to prevent conflicts within families and curb violence against women, she added.
Later, the Chairperson held a comprehensive meeting with all the concerned officers at Dak Bungalow and discussed various measures to be taken for the upliftment of the women.
The meeting covered a wide range of topics including the women centric welfare schemes and other benefits aiming to ensure socio-economic development of a woman.
Speaking on the occasion, Rekha Sharma said that the Commission will be taking all the recommendations discussed during the meeting forward to ensure that all necessary steps are taken to improve the welfare of women of Baramulla.
The Chairperson emphasised that women need to be confident in empowering themselves as they are the ones who shape the society. She exhorted upon the officers to launch massive awareness drives across the district so that the women can understand their rights.
During the meeting, she also highlighted the role of women in the lives of people and their contribution towards society.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson also appreciated the efforts of the district administration for organizing career counselling for girl students at the very opportune time and hoped that more such programmes are held for each and every student at Higher Secondary level so that they are able to make better career choices at the initial stage of their lives
