Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities reviews implementation of RPWD Act
Asks officers to assist PwDs in availing assistance under social security, other schemes
SRINAGAR, June 23: Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Iqbal Lone, on Friday chaired a meeting to review implementation of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act (RPWD) 2016.
Lone asked all the District Social Welfare Officers to assist and facilitate persons with disabilities in availing assistance meant for them under different social security schemes in J&K. He stressed on officers to supplement the grievances redressal mechanism by strengthening District- Level Disability Committees recently notified by the Government of J&K. He also highlighted different initiatives unveiled by the J&K Government for empowerment of persons with disabilities.
Commissioner also discussed the action plan regarding the District Disability Rehabilitation Centers (DDRCs) with the district social welfare officers.
The issues of accessibility to persons with disabilities in all existing public buildings, awareness and capacity building programs with District Legal Service Authority and disabled friendly websites of concerned district/departments were also discussed in the meeting.
Among other issues, the meeting also discussed UDID status, prosthetic aid camps, scholarships for persons with disabilities, and linkage for children with special needs (CWSN) and distribution of motorised tricycles.
