Committee Against Sexual Harassment,JU organized an awareness lecture
JAMMU, February 20- Jammu University Internal Complaints Committee Against Sexual Harassment in collaboration with Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu organized an awareness lecture on “Prevention of Sexual Harassment in Educational Initiations”, today at Brigadier Rajinder Singh Auditorium, JU.
Chief Guest for the event was Ms. Avny Lavasa, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu addressed the students and emphasized on the importance of such programmes. She gave her viewpoint on the subject and elaborated on the courage and dignity needed to address these issues. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Vibhuti Patel, Retd. Professor, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai apprised the gathering about the meaning of sexual harassment at workplaces, as also in Educational Institutes. Various committees and laws dealing with the subject were elaborated upon. She detailed out several case histories to bring forth her viewpoint. She interacted with the students and answered all their queries raised by them.
Earlier, Prof. Namrata Sharma, Presiding Officer, JUICCASH in her welcome address emphasized on the role and importance of such lecturers for the student community and how students should be apprised of their duties and responsibilities.Prof. Vishav Raksha, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies addressed the gathering and gave details of the academic achievements of the speaker. Formal vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Bindu Sangra of Law School and a member of JUICCASH. Ms. Aroosa Mattoo of Department of Botany, Scholar Representative of JUICCASH conducted the proceedings.
