Congress celebrates birth anniversary of  Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi

Jammu, Nov. 19 :-  Congress today organized  several functions to remember the  first woman Prime Minister of the country Smt. Indira Gandhi while the main function was held in Jammu under the leadership of PCC President Shri Tariq Hameed Karra which was attended by senior leaders of the party.

Rich tributes were paid to Smt. Indira Gandhi by the speakers in a function at the party HQ Shaheedi Chowk Jammu while earlier floral tributes were paid to former Prime Minister at her statue at Indira Chowk Jammu in a simple function organized by Congress Seva Dal and attended by several senior leaders  along with the PCC President Shri Tariq Hameed Karra including Shri Tara Chand, Raman Bhalla, Mula Ram, Ravinder Sharma, Yogesh Sawhney, Ved Mahajan, Jahangir Mir, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Th. Balbir Singh, Indu Pawar, Rajnish Sharma, Hari Singh Chib, S. Gurdarshan Singh , Vijay Sharma (Seva Dal), Tamana Heer, 

Addressing the function at the party HQs JKPCC Chief Shri Tariq Hameed Karra described her a strong and visionary leader of our country who was symbol  of women empowerment and strength of the country. He recalled her numerous welfare schemes for the poor and downtrodden and firm believer in unity in diversity and secularism. He recalled her contribution in the freedom struggle and great achievements as prime minister on all fronts.

Shri Karra also remembered her achievements in giving great strength to the nation and her poverty alleviation scheme for the poor . He referred to her victory   in Bangla Desh war and  the signing of historical Shimla agreement  whereby  Pakistan was  restrained from  raising the Kashmir Issue from any international forum . He also referred  to her administrative and organizational reforms  during her tenure .

Shri Karra said that time has come to strengthen the  ideology and principles followed by the Congress and its great leaders for strengthening the secularism, socialism and inclusive democracy. He said that our young leader Shri Rahul Gandhi is fighting for the established  principles of the Congress party and the entire rank and file of the party is behind him in this struggle.

He said that time has come for every congressman  and all those  who believe in unity in diversity to defeat the  communal and divisive  forces  who are  posing threat to the unity and integrity of the nation for which our great leaders Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi ;aid down their lives .

Shri Tara Chand described her as a great visionary leader who did several  remarkable achievements on different fronts including strengthening the defence of the country. She was  symbol of women empowerment in the country as a result the  73rd and 74th amendments ensured 33% reservation to the women in PRI in the country.

Shri Raman Bhalla  while paying tributes the Smt. Indira Gandhi said that under her leadership the country emerged stronger and progressed in all spheres of life.  She took very bold decisions  in life for which she was named as Avtar of Mata Durge by the opposition also. During her time it was stated  that Indira is India and India is Indira.

Several speakers including  Shri Mula Ram, Th. Balwan Singh, Ch. Lal Singh, Jahangir Mir, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, Yash Pal Kundal, and others recalled the great contribution of Smt. Indira Gandhi who was known as the Iron Lady for her bold and  courageous decisions. It is time to follow her principle to strengthen the country.
