Congress MP Manickam Tagore gives adjournment notice in Lok Sabha to discuss “Delhi infrastructure” issue
New Delhi [India], July 29 (ANI): Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Monday gave an adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha and demanded a discussion over the accountability for Delhi’s infrastructure tragedies and tragic losses.
“I hereby give notice of my intention to ask for leave to move a motion for the adjournment of the business of the house for the purpose of discussing a definite matter of urgent importance, namely: Demanding Accountability for Delhi’s Infrastructure Tragedies and Tragic Losses,” Tagore stated.
Leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had also criticised the lack of planning at every level that had caused the death of 3 students.
“The death of students due to waterlogging in the basement of a building in Delhi is very unfortunate. A few days ago, a student died due to electric shock during the rains. I express my heartfelt condolences to all the bereaved families. This collapse of infrastructure is a collective failure of the system. The common citizen is paying the price of unsafe construction, poor town planning and irresponsibility of institutions at every level by losing his life. A safe and comfortable life is the right of every citizen and the responsibility of the government,” Rahul Gandhi said in a post on X.
On Saturday, July 27, three UPSC aspirants lost their lives at an IAS coaching in West Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar after the basement was flooded with water.
Earlier, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Sunday sealed seven properties and three basements for violating building by-laws in Karol Bagh Zone.
The corporation’s crackdown against properties violating building bylaws has come in response to the harrowing incident that occurred on Saturday evening, triggering massive protests by students in the Old Rajinder Nagar area.
The basement was allowed for parking and storage but not as a library or reading hall and the coaching centre where the incident took place was running in disregard to fire clearance conditions, the release from MCD said.
The recent tragic incident in Old Rajinder Nagar, Delhi, has ignited a political blame game among various parties.
The tragedy sparked public outcry, with students and residents staging protests in Old Rajinder Nagar demanding justice for the deceased students.
The Delhi Police also arrested the owner and the coordinator of the coaching centre and both of them were sent to 14 days of judicial custody.
