Congress Observes Indira Gandhi’s 39th Martyrdom Day
Pays Tributes to Sardar Patel on his Birth Anniversary
JAMMU, October 31: Rich tributes were paid to the former Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary today, by the Congress party in Jammu and Sringar party headquarters besides in different dit. And Block Headquarters of the UT.
The Main function was held at PCC HQ Shaheedi chowk, Jammu under the chairmanship of Shri Vikar Rasool Wani – President. Working President Shri Raman Bhalla, Senior Vice Presidents Th. Balwan Singh and Ravinder Sharma, besides Vice Presidents, General Secretaries, Dist. Presidents Jammu Urban and Jammu Rural and other districts, frontal heads, Secretaries and other prominent leaders attended the function.
Earlier floral tributes were paid by garlanding the statue of Smt. Indira Gandhi at Indira Chowk Jammu by the PCC President Shri Vikar Rasool Wani , Ex-PCC President and CWC Member Shri G.A. Mir alongwith Working President Shri Raman Bhalla , senior Vice Presidents Th. Balwan Singh, Ravinder Sharma,Vice President Yogesh Sawhney, Sain Abdul Rashid, General Secretary Narinder Gupta, DCC President Jammu Urban Th. Manmohan Singh, Mahila President Shameema Raina Seva Dal Chief Vijay Sharma, Ritu Choudhary & Bhanu Mahajan besides other prominent leaders. Congress Seva Dal has organized the function at Indira Chowk.
Rich tributes were also paid to Sardar Patel, first Dy Prime Minister and Home Minister and one of the greatest stalwarts of the country, on his birth anniversary today. His services in the freedom struggle and in the strengthening and consolidation of the country after independence were recalled.
Addressing the gathering at PCC HQ Shri Vikar Rasool Wani while paying floral tributes to Smt. Indira Gandhi remembered her supreme sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the nation. He said that Smt. Gandhi created history by providing an able and dynamic leadership to the Country and was acknowledged a strong and visionary leader in the world. She will always be remembered as a leader of masses with strong commitment to the upliftment of poor and down trodden and devotion to the cause of nation and did not succumb against any pressures at the cost of the unity and integrity of the nation.
Shri Raman Bhalla recalled her historical contributions in the form of Shimla agreement, which binds Pakistan to settle all outstanding issues with India including Kashmir through bilateral means, strengthening of Non Aliened Movement (NAM) in the World, besides librating Bangladesh for which her leadership was commended by Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee who compared her to Goddess Durga. He said that Congressmen should remain committed and strengthen the principles for which Indira Ji lived and sacrificed her life.
Th. Balwan Singh in his address referred to the attempts to distort history by certain forces, who are trying to divert the attention of countrymen from the great contribution of Nehru- Gandhi leadership and the role of Congress party and its leadership from time to time. He said that time has come fully understand and recall the role of congress and its leadership on various fronts and counter those spreading falsehood in the society.
