“Congress prepared to win all 5 seats in Assam bypolls”: Party MLA Abdur Mandal

Guwahati (Assam) [India], September 5 (ANI): Congress MLA Abdur Rashid Mandal on Thursday expressed confidence in the party’s victory in the upcoming assembly bypolls in the state and said that the party is prepared and united to win all 5 seats.


“I am hopeful that all 5 seats will be won by our candidates. Our party is fully prepared and united. People are supporting us so I am confident that we will win all 5 seats,” Abdur Rashid Mandal told ANI.


In preparation for the upcoming bye-elections in five assembly constituencies in Assam, the state election commission has published the draft electoral rolls. Bye elections will be held in Dholai, Sidli, Bongaigaon, Behali, and Samaguri assembly constituencies. The announcement was made on Tuesday, highlighting the electoral specifics for each constituency.


The bye elections have been necessitated as the MLAs of the five constituencies have been elected as members of Parliament in the recently held elections for the 18th Lok Sabha.


For Bongaigaon, the pre-delimitation draft photo electoral rolls reveal a total of 246 polling stations. The constituency has 1,82,354 registered voters across 145 stations.
In Samaguri, the draft rolls indicate there are 197 polling stations to serve 1,80,448 voters. The Dholai constituency will conduct by-elections across 208 polling stations, catering to a total of 1,96,772 voters.


Behali’s draft rolls list 1,33,300 voters and a total of 154 polling stations will be established in the constituency.
Sidli constituency, meanwhile, has 2,12,555 registered voters, with 1,05,133 males, 1,06,920 females, and two third-gender voters.
Earlier this year, the Bharatiya Janata Party had contested elections in 11 Lok Sabha constituencies and won nine seats, while its ally party Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) contested two seats and won one seat and the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) contested one and won the seat.
Out of the total 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam, the Congress-led INDIA bloc won three seats in the state.
The number of constituencies of the Assam Legislative Assembly is 126.


According to the results declared by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally parties led in 93 assembly constituencies in Assam in the recently concluded Lok Sabha election.
While Congress led in 31 assembly constituencies and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) led in two assembly constituencies.
