Congress’ Rajeev Shukla hits back at Shivraj Chouhan, says “according to them, development only happened after 2014”
New Delhi [India], August 2 (ANI): Hitting back at Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan over his remarks about the failure of the Congress government in the agriculture sector, Congress leader Rajeev Shukla accused Chouhan of lacking historical knowledge, particularly about the Green Revolution which started during the Congress regime.
Shukla emphasized that the Green Revolution was pivotal in transforming India into a wheat-exporting nation and argued that Chouhan’s claims of agricultural progress post-2014 overlook this crucial historical development.
Responding to Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s speech in Rajya Sabha, Congress leader Rajeev Shukla said, “He has just become the Union Agriculture Minister…He does not know about the history of agriculture.
“Do you know who brought the green revolution? Because of the green revolution that was started under the leadership of Indira Gandhi, the country is exporting wheat today. Without knowing the history, saying all this is wrong on behalf of the agriculture minister. According to him (Shivraj Singh Chouhan), development work only happened after 2014.”
Earlier today, in an address in the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan accused the Congress party of neglecting irrigation infrastructure during their time in power. He pointed out that under Congress rule, irrigation facilities in Madhya Pradesh were limited to just 7.5 lakh hectares.
“Congress was in power for years but never paid serious attention to irrigation facilities. There are not just one but many examples of this. When there was a Congress government in Madhya Pradesh, there was irrigation facility in only 7.5 lakh hectares. We increased it to 47.5 lakh hectares,” he said.
The Union Minister also highlighted Narendra Modi government’s decade-long efforts to support farmers, promising the continued availability of affordable fertilizers.
“I want to assure the crores of farmer brothers and sisters across the country that the government under Modi Ji and the Bharatiya Janata Party will continue to provide cheap fertilizers,” Agriculture Minister and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said in an address in Rajya Sabha on Friday.
