Congress suspending his nephew “shallow mentality”: Punjab BJP Chief Sunil Jakhar
Sangrur (Punjab) [India], August 21 (ANI): The suspension of Punjab MLA Sandeep Jakhar from the Congress showed its “shallow mentality,” the BJP said.
The Disciplinary Action Panel of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Sunday suspended Abohar MLA Sandeep for “anti-party activities”. The 46-year-old first-time MLA is the nephew of Punjab BJP president and former state Congress chief Sunil Jakhar.
“It is their (Congress) decision to keep and or remove somebody. I don’t wish to comment on this…Politics has come down so low…This is the result of the shallow mentality of the Congress party…They can’t see a family together, how will they unite Punjab?…,” state BJP Chief Sunil Jakhar told ANI on Sunday.
Earlier, Sandeep Jakhar also questioned the Congress leadership for his suspension.
“The party did whatever they found right. My focus is on my work and I’m doing it. My stand was clear from the very first day…Whatever work was done in the past year was done in front of everybody. Nothing was done behind closed doors, unlike other leaders…,” he said on Saturday.
The Congress leader further asked why the party didn’t suspend him earlier if he did anything wrong.
“I do not have any personal grudges with anyone in the party. Some time ago, the Punjab party chief had said rubbish things against Sunil ji and I just protested against this because I felt that that was wrong. But the question is why they did not suspend me earlier, but now. In fact, why did the party put a question mark by just suspending me, it should have expelled me.”
The party should think “why leaders are quitting it and why it is unable to keep its people united,” he added.
