Construction of eco-friendly idols in full swing in Jaipur ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi

Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], September 1 (ANI): Ahead of the Ganesh Chaturthi, the preparation for the festival has begun with great pomp and show. In Jaipur, idol makers are making eco-friendly statues of Lord Ganesh, with the market bustling with full festive fervour in the pink city.

Sculptors are busy giving final touches to the idols of Lord Ganesha.

Idols of different sizes, designs, and colours are available in the market.

Sculptors in large numbers are constructing idols of Lord Ganesha at the JLN Marg in Jaipur.

Buyers are visiting shops to book their favourite idols. However, there is a high demand for eco-friendly idols, prompting sculptors to use less plaster of paris and more clay in most of the idols. Along with this, they are decorated with herbal colours, which do not pollute water like chemical colours.

A sculptor associated with the idol business said, “We start preparing for this festival about 6 months in advance. It takes time to get dried. All the parts are made separately, and then they are combined. Then we apply plaster and then colour the idols. The whole family contributes in different ways to making the idols. It takes 8 to 10 days to make a big idol. 10 to 12 people work on each idol. We have idols ranging from 1 inch to 10 feet.”

Sculptors said that due to heavy rains this year, the stock is very low.

Sculptors said that they have demands from different states, and the requirements of each customer were different. “Orders of big idols are given in advance,” he added.

They said that the stock has been kept as per the demand and booking of the buyer.
