Convention for Pani Simitis held at Kishtwar to mark JJM fortnight celebration
KISHTWAR, August 12: A District level Pani Samiti Convention was today organised in the new conference hall of DC Office here under the ongoing fortnightly outreach programme under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). Hundreds of Pani Samiti members participated and interacted with the authorities.
Additional District Development Commissioner Sham Lal , interacted with the participants and explained to them about their role and responsibility regarding planning, implementation, management, operation and maintenance of village water supply systems, thereby providing clean tap water to every household on a regular and long-term basis. He further asked them to plan the conservation of water and rainwater harvesting under various developmental schemes.
Exhaustive interactions regarding different ongoing Water Supply Schemes, and related infrastructure was held among the Pani Simitis and members of Jal Shakti department.
Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti Department Sunil Sharma, in his address, apprised that about 154 Pani Samitis have been constituted in all villages of the district with more than 50 percent women members trained in testing the quality of water by using Field Test Kits.
Earlier, District IEC Coordinator JJM Riaz Ahmed Butt gave a detailed presentation on the need of the constitution of pani simitis, their role and responsibilities.
In the past two weeks, a series of rallies, debates, symposiums and painting competitions were held across the district Kishtwar under JJM fortnight Celebrations in collaboration with the education department. The winners at zonal level were felicitated by district administration. Several FTK Kits were also distributed among PRI members and Pani Simitis during the day-long convention.
