CUJ Celebrates National Space Day in Honor of Chandrayaan-3’s Historic Achievement

 Jammu, 23 Aug 2024: The Central University of Jammu commemorated National Space Day today with a grand celebration organized by the Department of Physics and Astronomical Sciences. The event was held under the esteemed patronage of Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, and the co-patronship of Prof. Vinay Kumar, Head and Dean of the School of Basic and Applied Sciences (SBAS).

The program began with a formal inauguration by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sanjeev Jain. Thereafter Prof. Vinay Kumar addressed the gathering, emphasizing the significance of National Space Day and highlighting the remarkable achievements of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), particularly the successful soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the lunar South Pole.

Prof. Suram Singh, Dean of Academics, provided an insightful overview of India’s space journey, tracing its roots back to Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, the visionary founder of the Indian space program. His address underscored the importance of space exploration and its impact on scientific and technological advancement.

The event featured a variety of activities, including a Quiz Competition, Poetry Recitation, Debate, Poster Making, and Rangoli Competition, with enthusiastic participation from students across different departments of the university. The winning team comprised Sunakshi, Shriyank, Varun, and Amith, while Bhumika and Akshay were declared the runners-up. The event was adjudicated by Dr. Veerta Rani and Dr. Naveen Kumar. While in debate competition Abhishree and Swastik secured the first position, with Arshiya and Ritika Fiske as runners-up. The debate was also judged by Dr. Veerta Rani and Dr. Naveen Kumar. In the poetry competition, Swastik and Arshiya were named winner and runner-up, respectively. Dr. Chetan Sharma and Dr. Onkar Nath Verma served as judges.

In the poster-making category, Kritish, Khushi, and Tanushree Pathak emerged as the winner and runners-up. The digital poster competition saw Neha and Bhavana as winners, while Vishali and Arunima were declared runners-up. The competitions were judged by Dr. Veerta Rani, Dr. Chetan Sharma, Dr. Naveen Kumar, and Dr. Onkar Nath Verma.

The event was meticulously organized with Mr. Manoj and Mrs. Kavita serving as key organizers. The organizing committee included Zeleen as President, Tushant as Vice-President, Sheetal as Secretary, Kanika as Membership Chairperson, Jatin as Program Chairperson, Daljeet as Communication Chairperson, and Nitesh as Treasurer all members of Astronomy club, Central University of Jammu.

The proceedings were skillfully conducted by Arpana Bogal and Reeya. The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Vinay Kumar, expressing gratitude to all participants and organizers for their contributions to the event’s success.
