Daylong seminar on ‘Save Girl Child held at Srinagar
SRINAGAR, JANUARY 24: To celebrate the women achievers of the Srinagar District and to sensitize stakeholders regarding the importance of gender empowerment, a daylong seminar on ‘Save Girl Child was held today here at Zila Sainik Bhawan.
The programme was held on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar by District Social Welfare Office in collaboration with District Administration Srinagar Social.
The seminar was presided by District Social Welfare Officer Srinagar Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, while Chief Medical Officer, Dr Jameel Ahmad was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Among others, the programme was attended by CWC, Mission Vatsalya, District Mission Coordinator DHEW, Officials from OSC and females from various Departments like Health, Youth Services and Sports, NRLM, Education etc.
Speaking on the occasion, the DSWO said that the aim of observing this day is to render mass awareness regarding equalities & rights of girl child and treat her in accordance to her rights.
On the occasion District Mission Coordinator Ms Ruqaya Asharf raised awareness regarding the schemes under implementation in the District and gave a deliberated threadbare Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative and other schemes.
Gender Specialist Ms Deeba gave the overview of the working of District Hub for Empowerment of women Sgr, Para Legal Lawyer Ms Zainab discussed about the Rights of Women
Later, District Social Welfare Officer felicitated the participants who participated in Slogan writing and drawing competition held under the banner of National Girl Child week 2023.
Pertinent to mention that the Day was first initiated by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in 2008 and aims towards promoting awareness about the rights of the girl child. It also focuses on increasing awareness on the importance of girls’ education, and their health and nutrition and also to promote the girls’ position in the society to make their living better among the society.
