DC Bandipora chairs preliminary meeting on District Irrigation Plan formulation
Stresses on construction of water harvesting structures for efficient water management
BANDIPORA FEBRUARY 13: In order to frame comprehensive strategy aimed to optimize water resources, enhance agricultural productivity, and ensure the resilience of farming communities in the face of climate variability, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Shakeel Ur Rehman today discussed District Irrigation Plan (DIP) in a meeting convened at Mini Secretariat Bandipora.
The meeting encompasses detailed assessments of water availability, distribution infrastructure, soil types, cropping patterns, and technological interventions tailored to meet the needs of the district.
The meeting discussed various features and objectives of the District Irrigation Plan and various components of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayi Yojna (PMKSY).
Chief Agriculture Officer Bandipora, Javid Ahmad Samoon, who is member secretary District Level Committee DIP-PMKSY Bandipora, apprised the chair regarding various parameters of DIP through power point presentation.
The DC on the occasion highlighted strategy and approach needed to be adopted for creation of new water sources, repair and renovation of defunct water sources besides stressed on construction of water harvesting structures for efficient water and crop management.
The DC asked the concerned to take into account problems faced by people while framing District Irrigation Plan and to come up with alternative solutions in case of drought.
Shakeel ur Rehman also emphasized on the concerned departments to take up embankment works in low-lying areas where required to prevent river flooding.
Besides CPO Bandipora Mohammad Maqbool, the meeting was attended by Chief Agriculture Officer, Chief Horticulture Officer, Executive Engineers I&FC Bandipora and sumbal and other concerned.
