DC B’la reviews modalities for Delimitation of Municipal Wards

BARAMULLA, JANUARY 18: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa today convened a meeting of officers to discuss the impending delimitation process in the wards of two municipal councils and five municipal committees of the district.

The meeting held a comprehensive discussion covering a range of challenges, including population slabs, voter numbers, and geographical considerations.

A proposal for demarcation of municipal wards while taking natural boundaries into consideration was thoroughly discussed, with a primary objective to establish an equitable and representative governance structure for the municipalities.

During the meeting, it was deliberated that population distribution should be rationalized in every Municipal Committees/Councils (MC) ward in accordance with the established guidelines in the district. This strategic consideration aims to ensure a balanced and proportional allocation of population across MC wards, aligning with the prescribed norms and regulations.

The DC underscored the paramount importance of a transparent and impartial delimitation process to ensure equitable representation in the Municipal Wards of Baramulla district.

The DC further directed the officers of Municipalities of Watergam, Kunzer, Pattan and Uri to formulate a delimitation plan in a week’s time while Baramulla and Sopore Municipal Councils were asked to finish the process in 2 weeks time.

Additional District Development Commissioner Baramulla, Aijaz Abdullah Saraf; Deputy District Election Officer, Chief Executive Officer MC Sopore, Tariq Ahmad Mir; Naib Tehsildar Election, Executive Officers of all Municipal Councils, Committees and other concerned were present in the meeting.
