DC Budgam inaugurates National Deworming campaign
Stresses on 100 percent target coverage
BUDGAM, August 10: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Akshay Labroo today inaugurated the National Deworming campaign to be carried out across health institutions, government and private schools and Anganwadi centers in the district.
The DC launched the campaign at ASYM District Hospital Budgam in presence of Chief Medical Officer Budgam, Dr Mohd Ayoub and Medical Superintendent ASYM DH Budgam, Dr Mohd Iqbal.
He administered deworming syrup and tablets to the children and instructed health officials to ensure all children of targeted age groups are given the medicine for their health benefits.
Pertinently, Children between age group 01 to 19 will be dewormed with administration of Albendazole 400mg chewable tablets/Albendazole suspension. Worm infestation causes abdominal pain, diarrhoea, anemia, retarded growth and leads to complications of intestinal obstruction, biliary ascariasis and sometimes larvae travel to the brain also and can cause fatal diseases.
The campaign will continue up to 17th of August 2023 which has been fixed as the mop up day.
It is worthwhile to mention here that a total of 82504 students in government run schools, 68000 students in private schools and 43000 in anganwadi centers are enrolled which are to be administered Albendazole as per prescribed dosage. The total number of Albendazole tablets that will be distributed during this campaign will cover 100% of the target in the district.
