Stresses for regular lifting of waste material for proper disposal

GANDERBAL, October 17:  The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir today chaired a meeting to review progress on Solid Waste Management (SWM) in the district.

At the outset, the DC took stock of the door to door waste collection, installation of dustbins at identified locations, monthly payment collection, segregation process, and monitoring.

He stressed on proper segregation and disposal of waste material including degradable and non-degradable waste generated from households on a daily basis, electronic waste and other bio-medical waste in the district.

The DC stressed on remedial measures for augmentation of sewerage and drainage systems along the water bodies, besides steps to be taken for treatment of sewerage and drainage in/out flow mechanism to improve the water quality.

He also emphasized on proper use of separate dustbins by the citizens and urged the contractors to ensure regular lifting of waste material and its proper disposal from all areas as per the schedule.

The BDOs were directed to monitor the Solid Waste Management properly in their concerned blocks besides monthly charges for waste collection shall be collected from all households, shopkeepers and others on monthly basis.

He instructed the ACD to ensure regular monitoring of garbage collection and segregation process besides, report of daily activities and specific issues through WhatsApp group so that appropriate resolution is ensured in time.

The meeting among others was attended by CPO Irfan Giri, ACD Dr. Bashir Ahmad, BDOs and contractors.
