DC inaugurates rechristening of GMS Chopra shop in Udhampur

Highlights the role of Martyrs in Nation Building


UDHAMPUR, AUGUST 05: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai, along with SSP Joginder Singh, inaugurated the renaming of GMS to Martyr Constable Suraj Bhan Government Middle School, Chopra shop, under the Swachhta Pakhwada campaign.


Uma Shree, the mother of Shaheed Constable Suraj Bhan, was the chief guest, while Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Saloni Rai presided over the program.


The programme was attended by Additional SP Baljit Singh, former BDC Block Udhampur Balwan Singh, prominent citizens, ex-PRI members, teachers, school children, and the next of kin of the martyr.


While addressing the participants, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the vital role of martyrs in nation-building. She urged the students to strive for their overall personality development. She noted that this initiative by the Government of India and the UT Government would promote patriotism and nationalism among the young generation.


The Deputy Commissioner also interacted with the family members of the martyr and assured them all possible support from the District Administration. The dignitaries paid floral tributes to the martyr, honored their family members, and emphasized the importance of remembering their sacrifices.


The DC also planted saplings as part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” and “Ek Ped Shaheedon Ke Naam” campaigns, urging the public to plant more plants and actively participate in the Swachhta Pakhwada campaign.


The family members of the martyr expressed their gratitude to the Government and District Administration for naming the school after Shaheed Suraj Bhan.


SSP Udhampur also spoke on the occasion, paying rich tributes to the martyr and expressing that this initiative would help the youth learn about the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs. Students of the school presented theme-based patriotic cultural performances, adding to the solemnity and significance of the occasion.


In connection with the renaming of Government Schools after Martyrs another programme was organized at Govt. Middle School Silda, Zone Ghordi. Middle School Silda was named after Martyr Constable Ashok Kumar who made supreme sacrifice of his life for the nation on 15.08.1992 in District Doda.


The National Anthem was played and a colorful cultural programme was also organized in this connection, where the family members of the Martyr including his wife Taro Devi, his son Sanjeev Kumar & daughter-in-law Arti Sharma along with the brother of the Martyr Bansi Lal were invited as distinguished guests on the occasion.


The programme was attended by Designated Officer, Subash Chander Dogra, District Programme Officer Poshan Udhampur and Designated Police Officer, Manmeet Singh, SDPO Ramnagar including Principal HSS Ghordi (I/C ZEO Ghordi) Pawan Sharma. Plantation drive was also launched in the memory of the Martyr.
