DC Jammu calls for year round cleanliness efforts, behaviour change

JAMMU, AUGUST 01: Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya today launched the celebrations of Swachhata Pakhwada 2024 at Teachers Bhawan.

The event saw participation from key district officers including SSP Dr. Vinod Kumar, ADDC Sher Singh and ADC Shishir Gupta, alongside students and the public along with their representatives and former PRI members.

Emphasising the need for cleanliness to become an integral part of daily life, beyond the fortnight-long campaigns, in his address, the DC stressed that the annual exercise should not remain merely symbolic. “Swachhata must transcend this fortnight and become ingrained in our everyday routines,” he stated, calling for widespread public involvement and multilateral participation from all sections of society.

The Deputy Commissioner outlined a comprehensive approach to cleanliness, emphasising the need for effective liquid and plastic waste management, reduction in plastic use and increased focus on afforestation and urban greenery.

“True change begins at home,” the DC remarked, urging students and attendees to initiate cleanliness drives in their homes, schools and neighbourhoods. He highlighted the importance of behavioural change in realising the vision of a cleaner nation.

During the gathering, participants collectively took the Swachhata pledge, renewing their dedication to ensuring the initiative’s success. Public representatives shared personal accounts of recent cleanliness activities and involvement of village populations. Additionally, an educational skit was performed, further emphasising the significance and impact of maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
