DC Kishtwar review implementation of Road Safety Plan at DRSC meeting
MVD asked to intensify awareness programs in schools, bus stands, and hydroelectric power project sites in spirit with National Road Safety Month 2024
KISHTWAR, January 23: Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Dr. Devansh Yadav today underscored the need for a proactive approach towards enhancing road safety in the district. He was chairing a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) to review implementation of the Road Safety measures.
Dr. Devansh Yadav, who is also the Chairman of DRSC, evaluated the progress of Road Safety measures implemented by the stakeholder departments to make travelling safe on District Roads.
A key focus of the meeting was assessing the status of installation of critical safety infrastructure such as Crash Barriers, Dividers, and Speed Breakers at vulnerable locations.
The Deputy Commissioner also took stock of initiatives aimed at rectifying black spots and accident sites by NHIDCL, BRO, PMGSY and PWD, as well as the fitting of safety equipment including GPS,CCTV Camera, VLTD in vehicles.
During the proceedings, the DC emphasized the need for swift corrective actions to address black spots and advocated for the initiation of large-scale awareness campaigns.
Concerned departments, NHIDCL, BRO, PMGSY and PWD authorities were directed to rectify black spots, install crash barriers, Road Signages and other Traffic regulating measures especially in accident-prone areas which shall be identified and focused upon, to minimize accidents.
He specifically urged the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) to conduct surprise check nakas and enforce traffic violation fines rigorously.
Highlighting the pivotal role of awareness in road safety, Dr. Yadav urged the MVD to intensify awareness programs in schools, bus stands, and hydroelectric power project sites.
The emphasis was on reaching a broader audience, including students, the general public, and drivers, through organized awareness camps. Additionally, he recommended holding medical fitness camps in collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure the health and well-being of drivers.
All the stakeholders were directed to work in a coordinated manner to achieve the tangible results in the implementation of road safety measures in the district.
He said as the nation observes the Road Safety Month, such initiatives at the local level play a crucial role in fostering a culture of responsible road usage and reducing accidents. The collaborative approach involving multiple stakeholders signals a collective commitment towards building a safer and more secure road environment for all.
The meeting was attended by ADC Kishtwar Inderjeet Singh Parihar, Tehsildar Hqs Chander Shekhar Sharma, Dy.SP HQ Ishan Gupta, ARTO Kishtwar Mohd Saleem Manhas, ExEns PMGSY, PWD, and other committee members, including officers from the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) and NHIDCL.
