DC Kupwara chairs NCORD meeting
Emphasizes to upscale Therapeutic Management, Proper Counseling of drug addicts
KUPWARA, April 13: To review the progress made vis-à-vis curbing drug abuse in Kupwara district, a meeting of District Level Committee of Narco Coordination (NCORD) was held today under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Dr.Doifode Sagar Dattatray at meeting hall of DC Office Complex, here.
At the outset, the DC reviewed various issues related to menace of drug addiction, its control and rehabilitation and areas of concern, its hot spots besides, measures undertaken to break the chain of drug peddling in the district to save youth from the ill effects of the drugs abuse.
The DC directed the concerned to devise a comprehensive plan to reach-out to the drug affected persons for their smooth rehabilitation and recovery.
The meeting was informed by the Chief Medical Officer Kupwara that 243 new drug addict cases have been identified. With this the total number of drug addicts “identified” have reached to 443 in the district. It was informed that 119 counseling sessions of drug De- addiction were conducted in the district.
Meeting was also informed that drug addicts are properly classified on the basis of their severity.
The DC emphasised upon the concerned to upscale the therapeutic management and proper counseling of the drug addicts which can help the addicts to come out of the menace.
He asked the concerned officers to conduct interaction with drug addicts in a friendly and cordial environment.
The DC asked the Chief Education Officer Kupwara and Principals of degree colleges and higher secondary institutions to identify the drug addict suspects, organise awareness camps and make a schedule of awareness camps, seminars in educational institutions for sensitization of students about drug menace.
He directed Drug controllers to get the CCTV cameras installed in all hospitals, medical stores of towns and peripheral areas and conduct periodic inspection of medical stores and check their license.
Dr Sagar reiterated that the administration is committed to controlling of Drugs in Kupwara district on priority basis.
He asked Tehsildars and police to verify the property accumulated by drug peddlers and take steps to confiscate this property assembled with the help of drug peddling menace.
On the occasion, the DC stressed upon the Officers of all the line Departments including Enforcement agencies to ensure better coordination in enforcing greater deterrence to combat dangerous trade of drug-trafficking.
He said that efforts with cooperation, coordination and collaboration are vital to contain the drug peddling and break the supply chain, besides taking stringent action against the drug peddlers involved in the hazardous trade of drugs.
The DC said in order to combat this rising societal problem, multi-pronged Rehabilitation, Counselling and Guidance policy is indispensable to be implemented on ground to monitor drug abuse and take remedial measures to curb the menace.
