DC Leh chairs meeting of City Mission Management Unit under DAY-NULM
Leh, Dec 31: Deputy Commissioner, Leh who is also the Chairperson of City Mission Management Unit (CMMU) under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana- National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM) chaired a meeting of the CMMU committee.
At the outset of the meeting, Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Leh delineated the aim, objective and components of the DAY-NULM scheme. Implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, DAY-NULM aims to reduce poverty vulnerability of the urban poor households by enabling them to access self employment and skilled wage employment opportunities, resulting in appreciable improvement in their livelihoods on a sustainable basis and better access to financial services.
Deliberating the components of NULM, including Employment through Skill Training and Placement (ESTP) the need for National Skill Development Council accredited skill institutions was stressed to conduct trainings. DC Leh instructed to seek collaboration with ITIs/Polytechnics to impart trainings accordingly.
It was informed that 21 Self Help Groups in urban areas are formed under Social Mobilization and Institution Development (SMID) component of NULM and discussed the need to provide suitable platform for the SHGs to market their products to gain financial benefits along with necessary training and exposure for entrepreneurship building.
The meeting also deliberated on easing the documentation process to easily avail of financial assistance/loans from banks by the beneficiaries under Self Employment Programme and Support of Street Vendors.
DC Leh directed the concerned departmental officers to undertake required surveys to identify the target beneficiaries & different vending zones to support street vendors and for formation of Regular Town Vending Committees along with the aim to ensure proper and effective implementation of the scheme and its various components. He exhorted the need for mass awareness and dissemination of information about the scheme among the public.
DC Leh also instructed the officers to initiate a complete social profiling of the NULM beneficiaries in association with other line departments/agencies and their welfare schemes to achieve the defined goals and saturation under the scheme. All the concerned members of the City Mission Management Unit participated in the meeting.
