DC Poonch, MD JJM review implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in the district

POONCH, AUGUST 07: District Development Commissioner Poonch, Yasin M Choudhary and Mission Director Jal Jeevan Mission, Dr. G. N Itoo today chaired a detailed review meeting of JJM flagship programme of District Poonch. The meeting was held as a follow-up of various directions given by Chief Secretary during the review of Jal Jeevan Mission in the UT.


Chief Engineer PHE Jammu, Himesh Manchanda, Superintending Engineer Hydraulic Circle Poonch Mohammad Taj Choudhary and Consultant JJM Er. Gurcharan Singh were also present in the meeting.
A detailed presentation was made by the Rashpal Singh Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti (PHE) Division Poonch regarding the status of implementation of the mission in the District.


It was informed further that the department initially faced challenges in drilling of the bore-wells due to non-availability of suitable aquifer in various parts of the district and for which alternative sources have been identified or the drilling has been taken up at alternate locations so that a sustainable water supply system is established.
The meeting discussed the timelines for completion of the schemes and directed for focusing on the immediate development of remaining sources and installation of pumping machinery to start the operation of the schemes in which storages and other civil structures have been completed.


The meeting was also attended by the team of consultants and the District level Project Monitoring Units (DPMUs) which have been established for providing the technical advice and monitoring of the implementation of the mission at UT and district levels.


Mission Director reiterated the directions of the Chief Secretary J&K and the Additional Chief Secretary Jal Shakti Department for concurrent inspection of the schemes by the Consultants and the Project Managers of the DPMUs for ascertaining the technical feasibility and the source sustainability aspects.


It was decided Tehsil wise Nodal officer will be appointed for resolving local disputes and 48 schemes will be completed by 31th August 2024.
For the remaining schemes the timeline was fixed for complete as per the mission period.
