DC Rajouri chairs district road safety committee meeting

RAJOURI, AUGUST 03: In order to enhance the road safety and mitigating road incidents in the district, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Om Prakash Bhagat today chaired a pivotal meeting of the District Road Safety Committee.


A detailed presentation on iRAD/eDAR (Integrated Road Accident Database/Electronic Detailed Accident Report) was given by officials of MVD, highlighting the importance of road safety by using an iRAD/eDAR portal, outlining proactive measures aimed at significantly reducing road accidents in the district.


The MVD officials gave a detailed report in which 569 accidents occurred in the district since July 2022. Reports are available on the portal according to the classification of the road, accidents classified according to the month wise, accidents classified according to time of the day and accidents classified according to the age of impacting vehicles.


They also informed that after a detailed analysis through different types reports available in this iRAD/eDAR portal, it has been observed that 85 % accidents occurred due to over speeding/ rash driving and negligence of drivers & remaining 15 % in which road/mechanical failure or any other reasons may be ascertained.


The Deputy Commissioner, emphasizing the paramount importance of widespread public awareness on road safety issues, underscored the significance of averting road accidents, injuries, and fatalities.


He encouraged all stakeholder departments to champion a culture of mutual respect among road users, emphasizing the imperative need for drivers to prioritize safety precautions for themselves and fellow citizens. In a resolute move to enforce road safety norms, he issued directives to the Traffic and Motor Vehicle Department Authorities for the holding special drives to rigorously monitor traffic rule violations and to impose stringent measures on the offenders so as to effectively transforming road travel within the district into a safer & secure experience for all.
